As a LGBTQIA+ person, it is quite common to receive online hate from right wing people. On the internet, a lot of the same comments get made: you’re mentally ill, don’t influence our children, k*ll yourself - the list goes on and on.
‘Pretend That You’re God’ is specifically about people who use religion to back up their own hate. It’s about those commenters quoting bible verses to convince you that being queer is against God’s will. It’s about those comments saying ‘I’ll pray for you’.
This song is Eyemèrs answer to the hate: ‘Why do you pray for me like I carry disease? I don’t need you to pray for me, your hands are dirty’.
lyrics
Please complain
Pretend that you’re god
I won’t change
Believe it or not
Live my way
It’s all that I’ve got
Blessed I’m all that you’re not
Why do you pray for me like I carry disease
I don’t need you to pray for me
Your hands are dirty
Please complain
Pretend that you’re god
I won’t change
Believe it or not
Live my way
It’s all that I’ve got
Blessed I’m all that you’re not
Why not be silent
Why not be silent
Why do you pray for me like I carry disease
I don’t need you to pray for me
Your hands are dirty
Why do you pray for me like I carry disease
I don’t need you to pray for me
Your hands are dirty
Why do you pray for me like I carry disease
I don’t need you to pray for me
Your hands are dirty
Please complain
Pretend that you’re god
Please complain
Pretend that you’re god
