about
Having a mental illness can be very difficult to deal with. ‘Inner voices’ is about the negative voices many people carry with them on a daily basis. ‘When no one can see, they don’t believe’ is one of the first sentences Eyemèr sings in this song, shining a light on the stigma that still exists around illnesses that are non-physical.
With the production of this track, the aim was to make you feel what it is like, being in the head of someone who is mentally sick. In the second part of the song, the listener can literally hear voices building up, creating an atmosphere that perfectly mimics how intrusive thoughts work.
lyrics
mentally sick, you overshare
you're never really quick but you always care
when no one can see, they don't believe
gotta have some proof physically
it's a shame
we all waste so much time
comparing differences,
let’s build a bridge
instead of walls
it’s a shame
we all waste so much time
and space ruminating
can we outrun our shadows
life is simply passing before your eyes
when you get a grip, here comes a sacrifice
like a bad movie you keep staring
but waiting for the ending to arrive
use your voices, we all are our voices
these inner voices, they were not our choices
but use your voices, we all are our voices
voices, voices
we play hide and seek
these voices and me
will they not find
me where I hide
I hope so
